This was super convenient and made installing the lights a breeze. Step 4: Make your connectionsĪll of the actual fixtures had a quick connect where brass teeth would eat into the wire after turning it down. Would it work? Only way to tell at this point was to hook it up and see. Each of those are about 5-7 watts each, so I was definitely skirting the edge of what the transformer was designed for. I’m sure you are keeping track, but that’s 2 extra spot lights, and 1 extra walkway light. With that spacing, we found that we needed an extra path light on the walkway. We placed the path lights about 2 feet from the actual walkway to shine some light on the landscaping, and spaced them 7 feet apart. When we had them back about 5 ft from the house it made it feel like the Police were shining spotlights into the house to see what we were doing. We wound up placing those spot lights close to the house (6 inches away) so it wouldn’t shine into the house. This part is going to vary based on what you have to light, but I decided to put 1 spot light on each of 2 trees at each corner of the house, and 2 spot lights as a wall wash. Enough for me to use 3 – 4 watt (12 watts total), 12 volt bulbs to convert my lamp post to low voltage, and still leaving 16 watts for me to add more if I felt like I needed it.Ĭheck out the material list below for the other items you’ll need, and If you missed my unboxing video that shows everything that comes with the kit, see it here… The package came with a 46 watt transformer, which after adding the 2 spotlights and 4 path lights, would leave 28 watts. Not wanting to break the bank, I bought the $99 Portfolio Lighting Kit that came with 2 spot lights and 4 path lights. Portfolio outdoor wall lights come in a variety of color and designs as well as brass, bronze, black and are very durable to weather that can wear on your lighting products. My decision came down A) piecing a system together, which would could cost $300-$400 or B) go with the $99 kit. This is the point where I spent about an hour and a half looking at all the different lights. I went to my local Lowe’s to find landscape lighting options. I mean, “anything worth doing is worth doing right” Right? Since the line was dug up already, what a perfect opportunity to upgrade the front landscape lights on the entire house.
